The result of the annual Hat of the Year Award was announced today. The surprise winner was former New Zealand astronaut Ms Freya Hope-Higginson.
The prize winning model combines style, comfort and usefulness. It has a series of compartments that can be used to carry possessions and/or other useful objects.
Freya designed the multi-functional hat herself whilst travelling between Britain, Chile and New Zealand. As part of her prize, Freya will get to present the hat to the general public at this years Royal Ascot races which will run from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th June 2006.
Manufactures hope to have the first version of the hat in the shops before the end of July.

Both practical and fashionable! I just hope I can pull it off when i do the same journey, although, not being a successful astronaut I may not be able to fund such a creative masterpiece!
