Bristol based con-artist Colin Higginson has asked his wife Natty to prove her love for him by jumping off Clifton Suspension Bridge on their 1st wedding anniversary. The bridge, which is 245 ft (75 m) above high water level, has a toll fee of 50p which Colin has offered to pay.
“Natty and I tend to go Dutch” the happy hubby stated, “however; I thought it would be a fitting gesture of my love for Natty I paid on this occasion.”
As Colin explained, he wants Natty to jump at low tide wearing trousers because in 1885 Sarah Ann Henley (aged 22) survived a leap off the bridge when her billowing dress served as a parachute. Ms Henley subsequently lived well into her eighties.
“The other option is that she jumps off naked” Colin told a Papa’s got a brand new blog reporter. “I’ve applied for an art’s grant from Bristol City Council and they liked the idea of a naked jump. At first they weren’t too keen on the low-tide jump but, as I pointed out, the chances of survival would be higher if the tide was high. At low tide, if she by any chance managed to survive the jump, the mud would act like quicksand.”
At the time of going to press Natty was unavailable for comment, however, her expression during the dry run (see picture below) seems to say it all!
